Dragon Boat race Traditions
At the center of this festival are the dragon boat races. Competing teams drive their colorful dragon boats forward to the rhythm of beating drums. These exciting races were inspired by the villager's valiant attempts to rescue Chu Yuan from the Mi Lo river. This tradition has remained unbroken for centuries.
Tzung Tzu A very popular dish during the Dragon Boat festival is tzung tzu. This tasty dish consists of rice dumplings with meat, peanut, egg yolk, or other fillings wrapped in bamboo leaves. The tradition of tzung tzu is meant to remind us of the village fishermen scattering rice across the water of the Mi Low river in order to appease the river dragons so that they would not devour Chu Yuan.

Dragon Boat festival memorializes the Chinese poet Qu Yuan.

农历5月5日晴
我最喜欢过家乡的端午节，因为家乡的端午节特别有趣。
今天端午节，一大清早，我就跟在奶奶屁股后面去准备粽叶，糯米，肉块儿，红枣，菜干等包粽子的材料。奶奶忙前忙后的，我想帮忙，乐疯了似的一个劲地问：啥时候包呀?啥时候……奶奶不耐烦地说：“看电视去，包的时候叫你。”我被哄走了，耳朵边一只想听见奶奶的呼唤声。到了中午，吃完饭后，终于可以包了。奶奶先把粽叶围成圆锥形后，再把掺和在一起的糯米菜干放进去一勺，压扁后，再放肉或红枣，再放一勺，再压扁。这样粽子很饱满。圆锥里面放满了馅后，再把上头的粽叶将露出来的盖住，再把一层粽叶再将它裹起来，系上绳。一个完美而饱满的粽子诞生了。我也尝试做了几个，嘿嘿!我爆出来的都一些“丑八怪”。虽然不好看，但我很快乐。
端午节还有一个伟大的传说。在战国时期，有一位叫屈原的诗人，他非常热爱祖国。有一次，国家败亡了，他抱着必死的心，跳进黄河里。人们为了纪念屈原，把每年这个时候称为“端午节”。因此，许多人会把刚包好的粽子扔进黄河，纪念屈原。而我的家乡也有一个关于端午节的风俗习惯。那就是全村乡亲们坐在小剧院里看戏。依依呀呀的，不知道唱些啥玩意。老人们倒听得入迷。我们这些生活在新世纪的人们却有些不满意。
我爱家乡的端午节，为了纪念伟大诗人屈原。
