都说美国是个自由的国家，可也有束手束脚的地方。推荐信的使用之广，就让我们这些“外来户”很不适应。

用外语将自己花样翻新地吹捧三次

在美国，申请学校、找工作、甚至租房子，都要求提供推荐信。推荐信一般是熟悉你的人，从第三者的角度对你加以评判，因此，和你自己的陈述相比，往往更客观。美国是个极重视个人信用的国度，可以说，推荐人是在以自己的信用为被推荐人“担保”，所说的话，分量自然不轻。一封有力的推荐信能够起到事半功倍的作用，因一封推荐信而得到工作、被学校录取、拿到奖学金的例子比比皆是。

出国留学的人都找人写过推荐信，美国的每所大学都要这个东西，一封两封还打发不了，通常要求提供３封以上。推荐信是“准留学生”准备文件时最头疼的一项。国内的专家、教授即使答应推荐你，也大多只是在信上签个而已，信件的内容要你自己准备。以第三者的口气，用外语将自己变着法儿地吹捧３次，绝对不是“小菜一碟”。

等到申请绿卡时，对推荐信的要求就更绝了，需要提供６封以上不说，其中还必须至少包括一封“独立推荐信”，让没和你一起工作过，对你并不熟悉的专家学者来写，证明你如何杰出、美国如何离不开你。这个甚没道理的规定，不知使多少“准移民”望而却步。

在美国读书，平时一定要和导师搞好关系，因为他不仅管着你的现在，还在很大程度上影响着你的未来，继续深造、就业、申请绿卡……只要需要推荐信，你就难免有求于他。

有个朋友读博士读到一半时，老婆怀孕了，母亲在国内生病住院，经济压力一下增加了许多。这位朋友私下跑到一个公司去应聘，职位、待遇什么的都谈好了，万事俱备，就差他导师的一封推荐信。朋友和导师正式谈起这件事时，导师正需要人手干活，听说他要走，很不高兴，在他的百般央求之下写了推荐信，可公司收到这封信后就变了卦，表示不再需要他了。

朋友后来和导师闹得不可开交，坚决要求拿个硕士学位就走人。后来闹到系里去，硕士学位最终拿到了，可在找工作时却因为没有推荐信而颇费周折，最后总算在一个偏远的地方找到了一份起薪很低的工作。

许多机构要求写推荐信的人直接将推荐信寄去，里面是褒是贬，被推荐的人并不知道。多年前发生了震惊中美的卢刚校园杀人案，卢刚杀导师的原因之一，据说就是他去应聘一份工作未能成功，因此怀疑导师在推荐信里写了不利于他的话。案发后，那个用人单位公开了那封推荐信，里面其实充满了对卢刚的溢美之词。

推荐信这个规定，并不仅仅针对外国人，而是美国的“普遍规定”。美国高中生申请读大学，需要提供中学老师的推荐信。每到高中学生申请大学时，老师们就忙得不亦乐乎，要给上百个学生写推荐信。据说，老师们大多备有固定的“格式信”，只是针对不同的学生，修改其中的一些修饰语。想想也是，如果每封信都单独写，大概得天天坐在那儿，别的什么都别干才行。

真真假假的推荐信

有一天，我看到老公在电脑上敲敲打打，很专心的样子，就随口问了一句：写什么呢？他回答：写推荐信。

啥？又要换工作？搬家？

老公“嘿嘿”一声：想到哪儿去了，是为实验室里一个技术员写推荐信，他要去读博士。我忍不住笑到：“哇！多年的媳妇熬成婆了，也轮到咱给别人写推荐信了。”

仔细想想，我也口头推荐过别人。

开干洗店那阵子，我有个十分要好的朋友刚刚读完会计本科，四处找工作，因为没有工作经验，一时难以找到合适的。后来她问我，可否在履历表上写上在我的店里做过会计。这位朋友非常能干，人又好，在国内已有硕士学位，为了找工作才又在国外读了本科。我常说，哪个公司雇了她就偷着乐吧，所以愿意帮她的忙，还把店里的账目给她过目，让她心中有数。

后来的一天，一位先生从银行打来电话，仔细询问我那位朋友的工作能力和人品。他问了十几个问题，我自然都给予了极高评价。回答问题的时候我很紧张，比自己去应聘还要紧张，生怕说得不合适，误了朋友的前程。打完电话，我的手心里都是汗。还好，朋友被那个银行聘用，现在已是美国某个银行的财务总监了。

我的另一位朋友在公司里做部门主管，手下有个人夸夸其谈，好大喜功，又没有合作精神，弄得部门里人人不满，让朋友很是头疼。一天，这位仁兄突然来找我的朋友，说要另谋高就，请上司给写封推荐信。

我听了这事，觉得这封推荐信不大好写。谁知朋友回答：“好写，太好写了！我把他吹得天花乱坠，还怕那家公司不要他？烫手的山芋，终于可以扔出去了。”

如此看来，推荐信真是不能全信！

美国留学推荐书是非常重要的，推荐信的份量直接关系到能否出国留学，能否获得奖学金等，作为对外联系的材料，是其中一份较为重要的文件。推荐信的目的是通过第三方向对方介绍申请人的学习和专业方向等情况。在出国申请是否成功的诸多要素中，有力的推荐信是录取的重要条件之一，其份量仅次于于本科成绩单和标准化考试(gre、gmat、toefl)成绩。大多数美国学校都要求申请人提供二至三封推荐信。那么，美国留学推荐信到底要怎么写?如下：

推荐信的格式与一般书信基本相同，有信头、发信日期、收信人姓名、称呼、正文、信尾谦称、签名、推荐人姓名、职称及工作单位等部分。出国留学英文推荐信模板。

内容丨美国留学推荐信怎么写

1、被推荐人的基本情况介绍。侧重于个人的毕业时间、学校、所获学位以及个人的专业经历。

2、推荐人对被推荐人的基本评价。侧重于被推荐人的专业基础、个性、特点、工作态度和在学术上的前途估计。若是推荐研究生，推荐人还需进一步说明其深造学习的基础和当前所具备的研究能力。显然，恰如其分地评价被推荐人的基础、能力和前途，比言过其实的赞誉更令人情服，更具有实际意义。

3、推荐人可以着重介绍被推荐人曾经获得的奖励，发表过的论文，参加过的重要学术会议，以及曾在学生组织或学术团体中的任职等来支持自己的评价。

4、推荐人还必须清楚地表明被推荐人留学的身份是研究生还是访问学者，专业领域和研究方向是什么。

如果大学提供了现成的推荐表格，则必须按这类表格认真逐项填写。推荐表格中一般有学生综合评估的一项，即要求推荐人说明该生在所教的学生中应列为前5%，10%，或25%等。这种评估是指教授的个人评价，可以稍高一点。另外，推荐表格上常有许多难以填写的项目，遇到这种情形可填“i don't know”，亦不致对该生的评价有何严重影响。

推荐信尾必须有推荐人的亲笔签名，最好直接由推荐人寄给学校招生办官员或申请就读学校的系主任。如果由被推荐人寄送，可将推荐信装入信封内封好后由推荐人在信封口处亲笔签名以示保密。信封正面注明“a letter of recommendation”，表明这是一封推荐信。

申请失败的推荐信，一般存在以下三个问题：

1、绝大多数推荐信实际上是学生自己撰写的，只要让推荐人大笔一挥，签上名即可。

2、反正所有人的推荐信里都会夸夸其谈，说被推荐人是如何如何优秀，我只要一样照做就好了。

3、推荐信只是个形式，外国大学要不要录取我，还是要看我的考试分数说了算。

事实上，推荐信的好坏很可能直接决定着您申请成功与否的关键，是您申请材料里的硬伤，好的推荐信是录取的重要条件之一。

i take great pleasure in recommending wang yong, one of my favorite students, for admission into your distinguished graduate program.

mr. wang was admitted in 1986 at 14 years of age into the special class for the gifted youths, my university's unique program that caters to the intellectual needs of unusually talented chinese youngsters. it was a rare privilege he earned with his nearly impeccable academic performance through the years of his elementary and secondary school.

he impressed me almost as he entered into my university, a major cradle of china's scientific and technological talents. at the time, members of the gifted class all had to spend half a month studying by themselves the principles of calculus and then take an exam so that we could evaluate their self-study capability. mr. wang scored the highest grade in that exam. he also exhibited a keenly whetted mind during class discussions. to my regret at the time, his english was not as good as his mathematics or physics. but i noticed he made a point of working especially hard in improving his english during his five undergraduate years with us. by now, he seems to be at least as proficient in english as most of his former classmates in the gifted class.

in my experience with mr. wang, i was impressed with not only his extraordinary intelligence but also his ambitions and persistence. i am sure that mr. wang will be an outstanding student in any doctoral program that he may care to enroll in. so i would like to support him firmly in his quest recommendation into account when considering his application. i would greatly appreciate it you decide to accept him as he wishes.
